Whether it's an injury due to playing a recreational sport or a pulled muscle after working in the garden, Collaborative Health's Sports Medicine services are here for people of all ages regardless of physical ability. Although sports medicine is popular among athletes (both junior and collegiate) it is also beneficial to active adults and aging adults. The goal of our sports medicine specialists is to get you back on your feet and restoring optimal performance after an injury.

Overview

Sports Medicine at Collaborative Health in Central Virginia is here to help people of all ages recover from injuries primarily sustained in the context of exercise and athletic activities. From high-school students with a football injury to older adults with a pulled rotator cuff due to heavy golfing, our team of specialists are ready to help you! Our sports medicine physicians also perform concussion evaluation and management.

Our Collaborative Health Sports Medicine specialists are uniquely trained to evaluate and improve exercise performance, regardless of the level of athletic performance or competition. This includes acute and chronic symptoms that interfere with optimal exercise and athletic performance in sports activities for children, teenagers and adults.

Conditions We Treat

Sports medicine can help patients of all ages and backgrounds and is used to treat a wide range of sports and athletic injuries, including:

  • Acute Sprains & Strains
  • Fractures with or without casting, including growth plate related & stress fractures 
  • Chronic and overuse-type musculoskeletal issues (arthritis, shoulder impingement, etc.)
  • Relative Energy Deficieny in Sport (RED-S), iron deficiency, & other metabolic conditions
  • Diagnostic X-rays and ultrasounds
  • Sport related concussions and post-concussion issues.
  • Exercise in pregnancy
  • Ultrasound-guided joint & tendon injections
  • Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) & prolotherapy injections

    In addition to serving community patients, our sports medicine doctors provide care for the Liberty University, University of Lynchburg, and Virginia University of Lynchburg college athletics programs. The team also provides care for the Lynchburg Hillcats, a minor league affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians, and Hill City FC, a USL 2 professional soccer team.

    Collaborative Health Sports Medicine also provides sideline coverage for many of Central Virginia's local high schools (Jefferson Forest High School, Brookeville High School, Rustburg High School, Liberty Christian Academy, and more)
